Israel, Lebanon and the Hizbollah !! Whos right and whos at the receiving end

The first website I opened this morning on coming to office was that of IHT. Their headlines showed a picture of the rescue operations in Lebanon. Israeli attacks on the previous day had led to the collapse of a residential complex killing innocent people who had gathered for there for shelter from the attacks. I could see the fear of losing their life written all over the faces of those in rescue operations.

Imagine that you have been living in a place for decades and one day suddenly you are forced to leave for no fault of yours, not due to the fury of nature, but due to the a war that started from nothing, for nothing. The future of the entire population living in that area became uncertain one day. And as they leave their homes reluctantly, they look back for the last time...for it may be rubble at the end of all this, an end which is nowhere in sight. The fear of losing jobs, losing money, respect, social status et all and migrating to Timbuktoo, which lurks in the back of everybody's mind, has come true to a certain set of people, whom the world is watching with all its eyes open and doing nothing. Oops did I say doing nothing, I am sorry !! The countries all over definitely did something. Something that did have a positive image of that country. They pulled out all their citizens out of Lebanon in a jiffy.

Okie....lets see why this is happening......Theres some terrorist outfit called the Hizbollah (forgive me for spelling mistakes if any)....a group that is fighting for the cause of Islamists, operating out of Lebanon and firing rockets into Israel. Israelis as usual responded with 10 rockets for every one rocket that comes into their land....After realising that those rebuttals are not serving their purpose, they launch an aggressive invasion into Lebanon, seeking to wipe that zone clear of Hizb. Whos caught in this crossfire.....Innocent people as usual !!

Lebanon government for its part, not having curtailed Hizb earlier, is blaming other Arab nations for doing nothing. Wasn't everything under its control sometime back. IT was sleeping over it all the time.

But for the innocent lives, this entire issue makes me feel that hizb and the failure of Lebanon to have stopped them, is the root cause for the mayhem that is happening now. Israel's response seems to be rational. But, this impression is based upon media reports which we now know are biased and the degree of bias is not clear. What could be Hizb's point of view. I am unable to see significant advantages for them in this. Of course they would not be doing this without huge benefit and am waiting for some report to throw some light on that.

Quite a few things of significant impact has been happening in the past two months. My personal life has taken a toll. Thanks to the comparatively better work timings, sufficient distraction has helped me come a long way.

The main aim of such attacks is to create fear in the minds of people and spark communal tensions. The sites chosen for the blast stands testimony to this. The best response by the people is to stay calm without reacting to such provocation. It is much easier said than done as the seeds of insecurity that have been sown may have a domino effect.

The support of the goverment and the people to those affected can mitigate the risk of further communal clashes. It is very important for the politicians to express solidarity and help people in distress than starting a blame game. It is time that our politicians acted more responsibly than attributing the blasts to Bush or Howard's visit when the issue is much deeper than that. When the whole nation is waiting for the claimants to make a statement, irresponsible comments from respected people is very comdemnable and does not help to defuse the situation.

The government must come down heavily on the groups behind such attacks. It is very worrisome to see many such attacks taking place in the last few months. This will create fear and insecurity progressively. The security system in place should go for a review as the situation is changing fast.

Let us hope that those responsible are brought to justice and the fears of people are allayed, while we pray for the departed souls to rest in peace.

Past two weeks

Well, I am still trying to bring myself up to the task of writing my experiences. I have the time (nothing better to do) and I have the good intention (what a revelation !!)...For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to read a few pages of 'Points of View' by Somerset Maugham. It is a collection of five essays written by Maugham. The task has not been simple, considering that my reading habit has been on the decline. I started with Maugham's views about the three novels of Goethe, an eighteenth century German poet. Maugham draws parallels from Goethe's life and cites the reasons and inspiration for his novels. From the essay, it appears that Goethe, during most part of his life had this habit of falling in love very often and mostly with women who were already engaged or married. Maugham's adds more to this. He also suggests that Goethe's work may not seem interesting today as the setting and the public opinion of those days were different and writing has undergone radical changes since then. I will write more about this essay as a separate post once I complete it.

Me, Myself and I

I am short of words whenever I write on this topic........Not becoz' there is much info (of apsychic phenomenon) to write but bcoz of the lack of it.

To put it short, here is another adventurer (maybe "yet another") who likes to tread a new path that would be treasured as history....
